Disney Plus is rolling out a singularly comprehensive way to watch The Simpsons starting Tuesday: A 24-hour rolling stream of every season of the venerable series, adding up to nearly 300 hours of comedy made across 35 years.
A no-choice-required Simpsons episode delivery system is something that fans have clamored for since “day one,” Disney Plus senior vice president, Gabe Lewis, admitted in a news release. And now they have it, provided they’ve got a Disney Plus subscription: A Simpsons marathon all day, every day. As of the writing of this post, the Simpsons stream is displayed as Disney Plus’ main header as well as farther down the page under “Streams,” beside Disney Plus’ other 24/hour channels like ABC News, Playtime (kids programming), Real Life (documentaries, nature shows), and the like.
At launch, the Disney Plus stream will air 767 episodes of seasons 1-25 in chronological order (presumably omitting season 3 opener “Stark Raving Dad,” per the wishes of Matt Groening and other folks behind the episode). Given some quick back-of-the-napkin math, this would suggest that the Disney Plus stream will cycle through the entirety of The Simpsons at least twice a month. But the news release also says that the “programming lineup” of the stream will be refreshed monthly — implying that the chronological order is just to kick off the party, and in the future the “channel” may have differently themed and presented lineups.
The 36th season of The Simpsons is currently airing, and is available to stream on Hulu.
