PS5’s Wolverine game finally just made an appearance after several years of silence, and it’s not dead after all
Another PlayStation presentation has gone by without mention of Marvel's Wolverine, and so many fans and those around the industry were beginning to question the fate of the mutant. Is the Wolverine project dead? Not so fast, bub. During today's Business Segment Presentation and Fireside Chat 2025, Sony highlighted its previous fiscal year, but also looked to the future. And that future thankfully still includes Marvel's Wolverine. Screenshot by Destructoid Wolverine developer Insomniac Games was the victim of a massive data breach and hack in December 2023. The game has been scarcely heard from or seen since it was announced in 2021, and the leaks from the hack likely meant the devs needed to rework a lot of the title, but it's still coming, according to Sony. During Sony's slide show, a page about single-player games highlighted the titles that have been released every year since the PS5 launched since the turn of the decade. 2021 had Horizon: Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7, 2022 had God of War: Ragnarok, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in 2023, Astro Bot in 2024, and this year will have Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Under a time period titled "Upcoming," Sony highlighted Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet from Naughty Dog...and Marvel's Wolverine. So, as of now, the game is still coming, and Insomniac is still cooking and hard at work on bringing it to fruition. The hack, which included everything from personal info of Insomniac devs to full story details and pre-alpha gameplay of Wolverine, probably had a devastating impact on the game's development. But seeing it appear in the showing from Sony today inspires hope that it will come out one day, when it's ready. Insomniac has done a phenomenal job with the Spider-Man games, so gamers everywhere are eager to see Logan take center stage in his own story. I'm really happy to see that it's still coming, just not nearly as soon as everyone hoped.
