Questions about repainting fence frame
I've been revitalizing my backyard fence and I'm now up to the step where I want to repaint the metal frame. I've purchased a number of Rust-Oleum products, including a rust treatment designed to turn any rust into black oxide, a brown primer, and their semi gloss black paint. I've been told that I'll also need to do some sanding, even if all of the rust is converted, in order to ensure that the primer and paint ahere correctly. My question is, how much sanding is required here and with what grit? Can I just gently rub some 120 grit paper for a few seconds over the whole frame after treating with the rust converter but before priming, or do I need to get more aggressive? Can I skip the sandpaper if I just use the rust converter? Can I just paint over the old paint if it's not chipping? submitted by /u/davemarco [link] [comments]
