Refinish Wooden Stairs
1900 home staircase. Previous owners had carpeted this staircase sometime in the 90s and I would love to try and restore it rather than carpet or a runner. Tried to strip the stain off first but didn’t see great results. My wife wanted to paint before I stopped her. Last I previously tried to use an orbital sander to take some of the old stain off but felt like I did more harm than good. Are the stairs still salvageable or should I just carpet over?
