Replacing old tiled in ceramic looking sink with modern stainless drop in. How best to shim 1/8 to 1/4 inch on sides of sink?
The old sink is embedded in the tile counter top. I'm not ready to replace that at this time, but I've nearly got the old sink dug out. Based on my measurements and observations, it seems the front and rear of the new sink will rest on top of maybe 1/4 inch of tile counter top, while the sides will not be resting on anything as it was necessary to remove the tile to get the old sink out. It will be close enough that the edge of the sink sides will but up right up to where the tile is. So I'm not too worried about gap around the sink. However, this means there's a gap under the sides of the sink between the cement that was under the tile, and the bottom of the side edges of the sink. And as the cement that's there now is uneven all around, even where the sink does rest on the tile, I feel that area underneath the sink could be filled or shimmed with something to give it additional support to hold the sink. I hope I explained this well. My question is, should I shim this with chunks of wood? Or can I use some morter or quickest or something? Or should I be cutting it all out and building something specific with wood? Any insight or feedback would be helpful. submitted by /u/Jaanrett [link] [comments]
