It dates back to the 15th century, and as a rich source of silver, it was in use for 500 years, ultimately ceasing operations in 1962. In 1988, the site reopened as a museum and tourist attraction, and today, you can visit to learn the history of the mine as well as the evolution of the dangerous job of the miner.
