Solar window film and double glazing - does more space between film and window decrease risk?

Kind of a question of heat physics, I think. To decrease the risk of the window seal breaking or glass cracking when solar or heat reflective film is applied, it is recommended to apply solar films to the outside of the window. But if that is not convenient, and you would like to be able to remove and put the film back up easily, would it also decrease the risk of damage to tape the film to the frame, so there was an inch or two between the inner suface of the window and the film (depending which part of the frame you taped it to)? What about taping it to the outside of the recess, for even more space, like about 6in? (less convenient than taping it to the uPVC frame though? Or would more space make it worse? This would not be mirrored film. submitted by /u/SignificantCricket [link] [comments]
