The original Silent Hill is getting a remake from Bloober Team

After successfully remaking Konami’s psychological survival horror classic Silent Hill 2, developer Bloober Team is moving on to its predecessor. Konami announced Thursday at its Press Start games showcase that Bloober Team is now developing Silent Hill, a remake of the first game in the franchise.

The announcement was light on details. It merely featured the Silent Hill logo emerging from a fog, set to Akira Yamaoka’s chilling original theme song. Release date and platforms for the new Silent Hill weren’t announced.

But we know that Bloober Team and Konami have been working on their new project for a while now. In February, Konami announced it was once again teaming up with Bloober Team for a new project.

“Our collaboration with Konami has been incredibly fruitful, and the success of Silent Hill 2 speaks for itself,” Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno said in a statement at the time. “By sharing knowledge and experience, we have been able to create high-quality production together. Of course, we can’t reveal too many details at this time, but we are confident that fans will be just as excited about our collaboration as we are. We can’t wait to share something truly special with players when the time is right.”

The original Silent Hill was released on PlayStation in 1999. The game followed protagonist Harry Mason as he searches for his missing adopted daughter Cheryl in the town of Silent Hill, where unexpected horrors (and revelations about his daughter’s true identity) await. It’s also a big love letter to Kindergarten Cop.

Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 is available on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. In Polygon’s review of the remake, we praised the game for its impressive visuals, its attention to detail, and Bloober Team’s efforts to add new layers to the game’s open-ended storyline. The studio’s next project, sci-fi horror game Cronos: The New Dawn, is slated for launch this fall.
