T1 has secured a spot in the VALORANT Masters Bangkok Grand Final after eliminating EDward Gaming in the Lower Grand Final.
The Korean powerhouse took down the Chinese representatives and Champions 2024 winners by 3-1 in the best-of-five series, despite EDG having a veto advantage. Now, T1 will face G2 in the Grand Final.
T1’s Battle to the Grand Final
The match between T1 and EDward Gaming opened on Bind, where T1 immediately set the tone with the team’s flex player, Kim ‘Meteor‘ Tae-o, securing an ace in the very first round. From there, the map was T1’s playground as it dominated it with 13-4 on the board.
While EDG was on top in the first half of Haven with a 8-4 scoreline, T1 cooked an impressive comeback, closing out the map at 13-10 to reach series point. The third map, Fracture, followed a similar storyline — but this time, EDG fought back to push the map into an overtime and take the series to Split by achieving a 14-12 scoreline.
T1 showed no mercy on Split, continuing its momentum throughout the map and sealing the series with a commanding 13-5 victory, sending EDG home.
“I don’t think failure is that bad. What’s truly bad is not knowing where we failed or how to start over,” EDG’s duelist, Zheng ‘ZmjjKK‘ Yongkang, said after the loss.
“I hope we can regain our confidence and improve our practice so we can perform even better in the future. We’ve done a great job in our first international event of the year, and we believe we’ll come back even stronger next time.”
G2 Esports and T1 will clash in the Masters Bangkok Grand Final on March 2nd. Fans will be able to catch the action live on VALORANT Champions Tour’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
Looking ahead to the matchup, T1’s IGL, Kim ‘stax’ Gu-taek, told Esports Insider: “We’ll play pretty similar to today and be more aggressive against G2.”
