Taylor Lautner to play Taylor Lautner in Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter

Twilight star Taylor Lautner is set to play a fictionalized version of himself who, in addition to being a former teen hearthtrob who played a brooding werewolf, is also a werewolf hunter. Variety reports that the show is currently in development at Amazon MGM studios, with 30 Rock writer Daisy Gardner serving as showrunner.

The official synopsis is as follows:

After wrapping the final ‘Twilight’ film, Taylor Lautner vanished from the spotlight. Fans speculated, tabloids theorized—but the truth is wilder than fiction. Taylor wasn’t just taking a mental health break. He was preparing for his real calling…Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter. Playing himself, Taylor is drawn into a secret society of werewolf trackers who need his unique expertise. As he navigates his double life—Hollywood actor by day, supernatural warrior by night—Taylor must wrestle with the ultimate irony: fighting the very creatures that made him famous. Between saving the world, reviving his career, and falling in love, he faces the ultimate question—what happens when your biggest role becomes your greatest enemy?

Lautner played Jacob Black in the Twilight Saga, who if we want to get very technical wasn’t exactly a werewolf, but a shapeshifter who transformed into a wolf. Stephanie Meyer took many, many creative liberties with traditional Quileute legends when crafting her version of “werewolves.” We don’t yet know how traditional the werewolves in Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter will be. But the cheeky meta concept is definitely worth a few giggles.

While his Twilight co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have gone on to star in indie darlings and superhero blockbusters, Lautner’s been quietly out of the limelight since the late 2010s. He’s married to a nurse — who is also named Taylor — and the two of them have an active social media presence and a mental health podcast.

Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter does not have a release date. It is also unclear whether or not Robert Pattinson will join as Robert Pattinson: Vampire Hunter.
