The MGS3 remake’s multiplayer mode is basically prop hunt, and everyone’s pissed it’s not Metal Gear Online
The hype for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is high for both longtime fans of the series and newcomers alike, but I'm not sure the same can be said about its multiplayer component anymore. This morning, Konami hosted its own showcase and unveiled a new trailer for the remake of 2004's Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and detailed the extras coming on top of the reimagined base game experience. One of them is a new multiplayer mode, but it's not Metal Gear Online. Screenshot by Destructoid FOX Hunt was teased during the showcase as a new multiplayer mode, "based on the iconic stealth and survival elements" of Metal Gear, which will take "camouflage and hide-and-go-seek to the next level." Basically, it's a hide-and-seek mode similar to prop hunt. Instead of changing into inanimate objects, though, it appears there's some sort of active camouflage system similar to Octocamo in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. In the short gameplay footage shown, players seem to be able to become one with their environment as they stand or lie still in FOX Hunt, becoming covered with leaves or other foliage. It looks like it could be fun, but it's not MGO4, and players are not pleased about it. After teasing FOX Hunt last week during State of Play, MGO fans got their hopes up for another online MGS. And this is not what they were hoping for. The replies to posts by Konami and the official Metal Gear account are none too pleased about it, with some feeling like they were baited by the teaser last week. MGO previously appeared in the original MGS3, along with MGS4, and the most recent one 10 years ago in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The wait for the next iteration now continues. The showcase confirmed the return of Snake vs. Monkey mode for PS5 and Steam, Snake vs. Bomberman on Xbox Series X|S, and other unlockables like costumes and Secret Theater mode coming to the remake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VifvSU5wlY0 MGS Delta: Snake Eater launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on Aug. 28.
