The PS5 Disc Drive Is Now Officially £69.99 at PS Direct in the UK
The new cheaper £69.99 PS5 disc drive is now at PS Direct—with no other retailer currently having it available at that price.

The PS5 disc drive price drop has kicked in after being announced by Sony yesterday, now available for only £69.99 at PlayStation Direct.
This came with the news of a surprising price hike of select PS5 SKUs across different parts of the world. In the UK's case, the digital edition of the PS5 slim has become more expensive, increasing from £389 to £429.00, a hefty £40 bump. Dropping the price of the PS5 disc drive by £30 does offset most of this, though. Even if you were originally planning on being a digital-exclusive PlayStation gamer before, having a disc drive attached to your PS5 means you're no longer restricted to the PlayStation Store's often higher pricing on digital games. With that, you can make use of future deals on physical games, like Assassin's Creed Shadows, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Monster Hunter Wilds, and save more money in the long term by being able to shop with other retailers. Still, not all other sellers have followed PS Direct's suit yet. Outside of PS Direct, the only UK retailers that have updated their PS5 disc drive product pages with the new lower pricing are Very and Smyths, but both are unfortunately out of stock at the time of writing. Others like HMV & Argos are also out of stock, but haven't updated their listings from the old £99.99 tag. If PS Direct runs out of itself by the time you read this, the only other place where you can buy a PS5 disc drive is Amazon UK, but it comes with a much larger price of £116—which is usually the case for this particular retailer, automatically inflating the cost due to its dynamic pricing model. The PS5 disc drive was already scarce in stock, even when it was still being sold at £99.99. So, we expect stock on PS Direct will go quickly since it is currently the only way you can grab one at its new, more affordable price point. That's also the same case for the digital editions of the PS5 Slim themselves; the only big way left that you can currently beat the new pricing is by purchasing a console plus Astro Bot bundle from EE for £329—saving you £160 compared to buying them individually. Like with the disc drive, this is no longer available with other retailers. So, if you have been thinking about finally jumping into the PS5 generation, this is the cheapest way to do so while limited stocks last.
