Third-person extraction shooter ARC Raiders returns with new public playtest this month, now on consoles

ARC Raiders, a promising-looking third-person extraction shooter, is coming back with a second tech test on PC and first ever on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in just a few weeks, it was announced today. The PvPvE title had its first tech test towards the end of last year, and it's back with feedback implemented, bugs squashed, and a slew of new content like more enemies, weapons, gear, gadgets, progression, and crafting systems. Image via Embark Studios Similar to other games in the extraction genre, ARC Raiders pits players against each other along with AI enemies as they enter into "a crumbling world filled with towering ARC machines" along with other players in the quest for the best loot to level up and gear up your Raider character. "Over the past six months, we’ve worked hard to expand the core experience, based on community feedback," said Aleksander Grøndal, executive producer of ARC Raiders. "This is our chance to see how those changes perform at scale. We’re especially eager to gather feedback on progression, the combat experience, cross-platform performance, and how the experience feels now that it’s more expansive and layered." The game supports solo and squad play for up to three players, and "blends high-risk surface scavenging with strategic survival and crafting elements underground." Anyone who was in the previous test will automatically get access to this new one as well. I personally did not get a chance to try out the previous tech test, but judging from gameplay footage, it looks like it could be a fun twist on the extraction mode thanks to the third-person perspective that's rarely seen when compared to games like Escape From Tarkov, CoD DMZ, or Marathon. It's been over three years since the game was first revealed at The Game Awards 2021, so it's exciting to see it moving towards completion with tests such as this, giving players a chance to try it out and see if there's any interest in investing in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-NUcKbwVb8 The new ARC Raiders test runs from April 30 to May 4, and players can register to try to get in now on Steam or the game's website.
