A popular San Antonio resort will soon debut a Texas-size beachfront complete with swimming, water sports and beach cabanas — and it’s going to be entirely human-made.

Set to open in September, the new 2.2-acre Crystal Lagoon will be part of the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa, the hotel told The Points Guy, and will make the property feel more like a tropical getaway than a landlocked city resort. When complete, the lagoon will boast a white-sand beach, plenty of lounge chairs, and a new poolside food-and-beverage venue.

The new lagoon will join the hotel’s already robust water activities, including multiple pools, one of the best lazy rivers in the country, a two-story waterslide and a FlowRider wave machine.

“We are now thrilled to embark on an exciting new chapter that will redefine the resort experience here in Central Texas,” Steven J. Smith, the general manager of the resort, said in a statement shared with TPG, adding “guests will find a unique world-class experience honoring the timelessness of our Texas hospitality and charm.”

To take full advantage of the new lagoon, the resort plans to build a new 5,600-square-foot indoor-outdoor event venue overlooking the water. The building, surrounded by live oaks, will feature vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams and be used for weddings, corporate events and more.

But the renovations don’t stop there. In addition, Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa plans to open five new four-bedroom villas this spring. Each expansive villa will come in at more than 2,300 square feet, and be complete with fully equipped kitchens, an outdoor lounge with a fire pit, and VIP amenities like access to the nearby spa’s private pool.

Each villa will be named for an area river (Guadalupe, Nueces, Brazos, San Saba and Pecos) and will welcome guests with luxurious touches like soaking tubs in each ensuite bathroom, a 24-hour dedicated villa host team and access to golf carts to get around.

Rates for the new villas will start at $2,800 per night.

The hotel, which sits about 20 minutes from San Antonio’s River Walk, is known as one of the best resorts in Texas thanks to its vast array of amenities, including the impressive 27-hole championship golf course, multiple dining options and extensive family-friendly fun.
