Since the recent launch of Alienware’s $899.99 AW2725Q 4K OLED gaming monitor, I’ve changed my tune on how much I think people should shell out for a similarly-sized, yet lower resolution 1440p OLED display. It used to be somewhere around $800, but now, somewhere in the ballpark of $500 sounds right. Samsung’s Odyssey G6 is a solid 1440p OLED, and it’s currently marked down to $549.99 (originally $799.99).
1440p (or QHD, as it’s referred to interchangeably) is the best resolution to target for most gamers, in part because you don’t need pricey, state-of-the-art PC components to run most games well (though, to be clear, you still need pretty powerful hardware for 1440p — the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti is a great 2025 candidate). The Odyssey G6 comes with a 240 Hz maximum refresh rate, and with support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync compatibility, the display won’t exhibit annoying screen tearing. It also has a 3-year warranty that covers burn-in during normal use.
Samsung’s $549.99 pricing jumped out at me, as it’s the same price that Alienware has put on its upcoming 27-inch 1440p OLED gaming monitor coming out this summer. However, Alienware isn’t firm on the pricing, as it expects the recent increase in tariffs on products coming to the U.S. from China to impact pricing. The good news is that, since this Samsung monitor is discounted now, you don’t have to wait until the summer to see how all of that shakes out.
