Roughly a decade after the original game’s release, Monolith Soft and Nintendo are releasing Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on the Nintendo Switch.
If you purchase the digital copy from the Nintendo eShop, the preload is available now, so you can download the game ahead of launch and start playing as soon as it’s available. As with all Nintendo games, you can play as soon as Thursday, March 20, begins in your region. (However, there is a small exception for some of those living in North America.)
Below, see what time Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition releases in several timezones.
What time does Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition release?

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will be available on Thursday, March 20, at the following times from the Switch eShop:
- 9 p.m. PDT on March 19 for the West Coast of North America
- 12:01 a.m. EDT on March 20 for the East Coast of North America
- 12:01 a.m. GMT on March 20 for the U.K.
- 12:01 a.m. CET on March 20 for west mainland Europe
- 12:01 a.m. JST on March 20 for Japan
You can play Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition at midnight local time, but there is an exception for North America. There, the game will go live when it hits midnight on the East Coast, so those living in certain parts of the continent can sneak in an hour or two before midnight.
You can also purchase the game from an eShop region where it’s already available (like Japan) and can start playing when it becomes midnight in the timezone. However, you must be willing to log into that specific regional account each time you want to play. Otherwise, you can just wait until it’s available where you are.
The above release times only apply to those who purchase the game digitally via the Nintendo eShop. If you buy a physical copy of the game, you will need to wait until you get your hands on the actual cartridge to play.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition preload size
According to the official game site, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will require 13.5 GB of storage space on your Nintendo Switch.
Make sure you have at least that amount of data freed up on your console storage before you download the game. If you can’t clear up enough data, you might want to consider buying a microSD to upgrade your console’s storage since the 13.5 GB doesn’t include any post-release patches or updates that might come to the game.
