What to Watch This Weekend (February 14-February 16)

Entertainment has hit critical mass over the last decade, with more shows and movies being produced and released than ever before. It’s impossible to keep up with everything hitting the digital space, whether it be Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) or a traditional streaming network. With that in mind, we figured it was well past time for us to whip up a little something to help you keep up (and catch up) with all there is to watch in the big, wide world of digital viewing. And thus, the Streaming Rewind was born!

We’ll update this list at the end of each week so you can check out what you may have missed, and what’s coming up on the weekend. We’ll keep it a mix of popular releases and noteworthy lesser-known titles to help you find what’s worth taking the risk on as well as dive into a few things that we loved and why we loved ‘em, or just break down a show or movie that left us with some opinions. Sometimes, we’ll even have guest entries from other members of the IGN staff. If you’re not interested in all that and just want to see a bulleted list of what’s out there, pop on down to the New and Noteworthy and ICYMI sections.

The Gorge Romances Several Genres (Apple TV+)

The Gorge, the latest film from writer/director duo C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson, hits Apple TV+ on Valentine’s Day, offering up a genre-bending experience that, while a bit too long, ends up being a fun watch. Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy mix it up as snipers tasked by their respective governments to guard opposite sides of, you guessed it, a gorge, but the film’s real teeth are in what the two snipers are actually guarding their sides of the gorge from. The story ends up being a mix of romance, horror, thriller, and spy flick, which sounds like a lot but does ultimately work.

Yellowjackets Return (Paramount+ w/ Showtime)

Buzz buzz! The Yellowjackets are back for Season 3, setting up a brand new set of mysteries and leaving us to question whether or not things are truly as they seem in the show’s past timeline. This year seems to be potentially setting itself up to be another season devoid of cannibalism but, don’t worry, you’ll be getting your fair share of guts in the first episode. With them comes a rekindled romance, screaming trees, a bad trip, an out-of-his-mind coach and the saddest funeral you ever did see.

Oscar Nominees Come to Digital

The 97th annual Academy Awards are right around the corner on March 2. As has been customary since the start of the digital era, many Oscar contenders have made their way to their respective studios' platforms (and their partners) as well as digital and demand. This week sees The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Nickel Boys, Hard Truths and more are available for rental this week, with more coming as we get closer to the show.

Cobra Kai’s Karate Nonsense Is, Regrettably, Over (Netflix)

Cobra Kai has delighted us with endless karate shenanigans throughout its tenure on YouTube TV and eventually Netflix but, alas, it is time for The Best Around to move on to other dojos. Though it’s a pity to say goodbye to the long-running and often hilarious series, Miyagi-do enthusiasts still have a new Karate Kid movie to look forward to. Karate Kid Legends will kick its way into theaters on May 30.
