Why add sealant over tank-to-bowl bolts for toilet?
My toilet began leaking from one of the tank-to-bowl bolts because the bolt sheared off (see Pic 7). As I investigated, I see that the top of the bolts are covered in a hard, rusty-looking sealant-like material. I am not super experienced with plumbing fixes but I was under the impression it should be a bolt + maybe washer + gasket then hole thru the tank. I didn't think there should be this gunk/sealant over the top of the bolt. Can anyone please explain what was likely done here? Can should just scrape it away and install a new bolt kit? Will need to replace the tank entirely? Thanks all! submitted by /u/PM_ME_YOUR_3RDNIPPLE [link] [comments]
