A$AP Rocky Is Ray-Ban’s Newly Appointed Creative Director

A$AP Rocky has been a “fashion killa” throughout his entire career, and now the rapper has a new title to reflect. Days after his not guilty verdict in a gun trial, Ray-Ban revealed that A$AP Rocky will be the brand’s first-ever creative director Friday morning. The artist is renowned for his exceptional contribution to the music and fashion industry and has been tasked with bringing his trendsetting prowess to the eyewear brand.

The New York-born artist will be overseeing creative projects as well as bringing a new perspective to the eyewear brand’s classic designs. Ray-Ban’s new Blacked Out Collection marks the first of many collections created by A$AP Rocky. The new items offer an upgraded design of the Mega Icons through a new lens. These are expected to hit stores in April, and he had been teasing the news by wearing the brand's sunglasses during to court appearances in LA.

“I’ve always admired Ray-Ban’s ability to stay true to its roots while constantly evolving,” A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Meyers, said in a press release announcing his new position. “I’m excited to be part of the strong heritage and develop the next chapter for an iconic brand like Ray-Ban.”

Following the success of his music career, the fashion tastemaker and entrepreneur’s collaboration with the classic American label indicates a shift within the heritage company as it welcomes a contemporary touch from Rihanna’s beau. The debut collection will be a reflection of his distinct music, as it will seamlessly fuse classic elements with modern modifications. (Maybe, we’ll get a campaign featuring him and Rihanna, too.)

“Today, we are welcoming A$AP Rocky into our family. He’s a visionary artist and creator. His ability to push the boundaries of the diverse worlds he explores, aligns with the Ray-Ban DNA,” Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio added in a press release.
