Addison Rae Embraces 'High Fashion' in Her New Music Video
The pop star pays homage to Britney Spears' $1 million Victoria's Secret bra on tour from the 2000s, in addition to several other sensuous and smart fashion references.

"Have you ever dreamt of bein' seen? Ah not by someone, more like in a magazine," say the opening lines of Addison Rae's new single, "High Fashion." The short answer? Yes. We see her, especially in the high-drama music video where her clothes make sensuous nods to old Hollywood, The Wizard of Oz's Dorothy, and Britney Spears.
The video opens with a dramatic flicker of a lighter as Rae saunters into an empty diner, dressed in a tasseled, golden gown reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe. She sits in front of a plate of beignets, the New Orleans delicacy and a wink to Rae's origins as a native of Lafayette, Louisiana. The powdery nature of the dessert is a throughline in the video as Rae dances in clouds of powdered sugar dressed like a modern-day Wizard of Oz Dorothy (pigtails and red heels) in different clips. As the song progresses, viewers are queued into the high fashion nature behind the title, with many scenes taking place inside a luxurious hot-pink walk-in closet where Rae plays with diamonds, pearls, and a shoe collection one could only dream of (thank you, Dara!).
"High Fashion" contains some not-so-subtle references to Spears, the Southern belle turned mega-star and muse of Ms. Rae. (Remember when she was photographed walking down the street reading Spears' memoir?). At the turn of the century, Spears performed in a $1 million Victoria's Secret diamond bra and low-rise jeans during her "Dream Within a Dream" tour. In "High Fashion," Rae gives the Spears look her own twist while dancing in the rain as the pop star did on tour in the early 2000s. Rae has successfully proved she can reference previous pop culture moments in a fresh, evocative way that is nothing but pure fun.

The pop princess has really come into her own in recent years when it comes to her unique style, meshing a 2010 Tumblr girl with a 1930's Hollywood starlet. In her new music video, her kitschy glamour is on full display. Rae has an all-star team behind her, consistently dressed by Dara Allen (the stylist also behind Hunter Schafer's stunning looks), nails by the A-lister favorite Mei Kawajiri, and makeup by none other than Pat McGrath. With that combination alone, magic is sure to ensue, and Rae's allure in "High Fashion" is a bona fide hit.
Rae's debut album is expected to be released later this year, and there are plenty of singles to listen to in the meantime: "Diet Pepsi," "Aquamarine," "Arcamarine" (a collaboration with Arca), and "The von dutch remix" with Charli xcx.
