Amazon’s God of War TV series is already looking toward season 2

Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of God of War has been in the works for a while now, but on March 11 we got our most concrete details about the show yet. Showrunner Ron Moore, the mind behind the 2000s-era Battlestar Galactica reboot, has revealed that he’s hard at work on the first two seasons of the show, along with the rest of the writers’ room.

The God of War series was first announced all the way back in 2022, but was originally going to be overseen by Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins. However, late last year Amazon announced that Moore was taking over showrunner duties. But that was the last we’d heard about the show until last week, when Moore went on Battlestar actor Katee Sackhoff’s podcast.

The pair didn’t get too much into God of War, but Moore mentioned it briefly as the next project on his plate, and shared that Amazon had already ordered two seasons of the show. Moore also shared that he hasn’t played much of the God of War games, but considering how cinematic the series has always been — particularly the last two entries — it’s easy to imagine that the veteran TV creator will have no trouble sticking to the source material.

Since Moore said that he and the rest of the writers’ room are working on the show now, it seems safe to assume it still won’t be out for quite a while, pinning it to a 2026 release date for the first season at least. God of War will be Prime Video’s second big video game adaptation series, following in the footsteps of last year’s surprisingly great Fallout series, which is set to return for season 2 sometime in the near future as well.
