Building a walk-in wardrobe around IKEA PAX units – how much clearance should I leave for filler panels?
Hi everyone, I’m planning to assemble several IKEA PAX wardrobe units (236cm tall) inside a new walk-in wardrobe space. The room ceiling height is about 240cm, so there’s only a small clearance above the units. I want to make sure I leave enough space on the sides and between the units and the walls for filler panels and a clean built-in look. The PAX units I plan to use are: Cabinet 1: 58 × 150 cm Cabinet 2: 58 × 150 cm Cabinet 3: 35 × 100 cm Cabinet 4: 58 × 100 cm Cabinet 5: 58 × 50 cm (All 236cm tall.) If arranged in a U-shape without gaps, the footprint is roughly 216cm × 150cm. Since the fully assembled units won’t fit through a standard door opening (mine is 206cm high), I plan to assemble the IKEA PAX units inside the walk-in wardrobe space itself. Has anyone tried assembling PAX units this way? Any tips on clearance or space needed inside for assembly? I’ve assembled many IKEA wardrobes and furniture before (though not PAX specifically), and the floor is level. My main question is: how much clearance should I leave on the sides and between units and walls to make fitting filler panels and trims easier, while keeping a neat built-in finish? Any advice from people who have assembled PAX or similar wardrobes in tight spaces would be much appreciated! submitted by /u/KiKiTony3 [link] [comments]
