The fifth edition of the Call of Duty League (CDL) Championship is on the horizon, rounding out the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 season. Throughout the year, 12 franchises based in North America have competed across four LAN events and weeks of online qualifiers to accumulate CDL Points and earn a place in the top eight.
Miami Heretics is the only franchise fielding an all-European roster, and aims to be the first European side to win Call of Duty’s biggest accolade.
Esports Insider takes a closer look at Miami Heretics chances of victory ahead of the season-ending Championship Weekend event.
Miami Heretics Current Roster
The roster representing Miami Heretics at Championship Weekend is as follows:
- Adrian ‘MettalZ’ Serrano
- José Manuel ‘ReeaL’ Fernández
- David ‘RenKoR’ Isern
- Diego ‘SupeR’ Escudero
Following the Florida Mutineers’ rebrand to Miami Heretics, MettalZ is the longest-standing member of the roster, having represented the franchise since August 2023. The Spainard is one of the most experienced players from continental Europe, rising to fame when Team Heretics qualified for the CWL Pro League in 2019.
ReeaL rose to prominence after competing in North American and European Challengers events, winning an online cup in February 2024 before capping off Stage One of Challengers Elite with victory under the OMiT Europe banner.
RenKoR, like many of his teammates, showcased his skills within the Challengers scene, recording consistent results throughout the Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 seasons. Following a top-six finish at 2024 Challengers Finals, the player joined Miami to compete in the top tier of competition.
SupeR is the most recent addition to the Miami Heretics lineup, joining in December 2024 as a substitute before replacing Alejandro ‘Lucky’ López in March 2025 following the franchise scoring a top-12 finish at Major 2.
The Story So Far

The Spanish Call of Duty scene has proven on several occasions that it has the ability to compete with the likes of the UK and North America on the international stage. Miami began the Black Ops 6 season with Lucky as part of the starting roster and headed into Major 1 in Madrid looking for a strong showing in front of a passionate hometown crowd.
Miami kicked off Major 1 with a shock victory over OpTic Texas, setting up a clash against the Los Angeles Thieves in the next round. The Thieves proved too strong for the Spaniards, sending them to the elimination bracket, where the side defeated Minnesota Rokkr and Carolina Royal Ravens to meet the Thieves in the elimination final. Los Angeles scored another 3-0 sweep, resulting in Miami scoring an impressive third-place finish to kick off the Black Ops 6 season.
The early-season form of Major 1 quickly diminished in Major 2. Miami would play LA Thieves for a third time in its first Major 2 match, losing 3-1, sending them out of the tournament. The result would mark the end of Lucky’s time on the roster, with SupeR joining ahead of the Major 3 qualifiers.
The impact of the switch was felt immediately, with Miami scoring the fourth seed for Major 3 along with a fourth-place finish. Wins over Toronto Ultra and Atlanta FaZe showcased the team’s ability to compete against North America’s best.
Major 4 was another step in the right direction. Online qualifiers saw the franchise secure the first seed, giving it an ideal opportunity to achieve better than its top-four finish from Major 1. An opening victory over Minnesota Rokkr resulted in another battle against the LA Thieves. After losing to the organisation several times in previous Majors, Miami finally avenged the defeats with a 3-2 win to secure its first winner’s bracket final.
Standing in the way of a Grand Final appearance was Atlanta, a franchise which it beat in Major 2. Atlanta FaZe responded from its previous defeat with a 3-1 win over the Spaniards to send the franchise to another encounter with the LA Thieves. Despite beating the team earlier in the tournament, LA Thieves emerged victorious, sending Miami out of Major 4 in third place, its best result of the season.
Championship Weekend Expectations
Miami heads into Championship Weekend looking to end the season on a high. Having shown glimpses of brilliance in the first and last Major of the regular season, there’s always a chance of the Spaniards making an impact against the established names.
The franchise begins its Champs campaign against an out-of-sorts Vancouver Surge, another franchise that has also demonstrated the ability to contend for tournament victories. A win in round one could set up another clash with the Los Angeles Thieves, which heads into Champs after winning the last two Majors. A top-three finish for Miami would be solid foundations to lay before attention turns to the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
