Carolina Herrera Takes Notes From '70s Film and 'Ephemeral Beauty' for Fall/Winter 2025

Carolina Herrera's refined elegance gets a '70s-inspired energy for Fall/Winter 2025, but not in the obvious disco and denim sense. Creative Director Wes Gordon was inspired by one of his favorite films, Being There (1979), and took its attitude into the new clothes. In the newness, he embraces transformation, resilience, and presence, much like the movie's Chance the Gardener character.

The whole thing is touched by "the thought of tending to our wardrobes the way he would tend to his garden—meticulously, with thoughtful care. Being there," Gordan said in show notes. Every piece featured in this collection, shown on the penultimate day of New York Fashion Week, aims to be a metaphor for beauty and change. From silk rosettes and cashmere knitwear to strapless bustiers and embroidered capes, Gordon's vision comes to life in order to redefine the Herrera woman and how she approaches creating a capsule wardrobe. Although he leans into an idea of innocence and purity of femininity in this collection, Gordon's use of lace and sheer silhouettes reminds us that the Herrera woman is confident, sexy, and modern as ever.

The designer played with autumnal and spring color palettes to visually demonstrate the delicacy of transformation like the seasons. He understood the significance of color in the brand's heritage and paid homage to Sonia Delaunay’s Rhythm Color at the Met through his use of autumnal hues (deep reds, forest greens, moody grays) and more vibrant hues (fuchsias, whites, and periwinkle purples), which were harmoniously balanced. Matte, latte-colored eyes with highlighted inner corners realized this feeling on runway models' beauty looks, all courtesy of Carolina Herrera Beauty makeup artist Samantha Lau.
