Coco Rocha pulled out all the stops on the runway for Miss Sohee’s Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025 collection. The model brought performance into her walk, as she usually does, while wearing an audible leather corset ensemble with a sheer, lace catsuit beneath. Lace-up, knee-high leather boots topped it off. It channeled something kinkier than most of the rest of the collection by Creative Director Sohee Park, which was mostly characterized by cascading gowns and pearly accents (that seemed referential to Mugler’s Fall 1995 couture show).
The collection serves as both an homage to traditional Korean craftsmanship and the reimagination of contemporary femininity. From the first look, an air of mystery envelops Miss Sohee’s new couture collection. Chantilly lace cascades over anonymous faces and silhouettes, creating a veil of dark allure reminiscent of a noblewoman from the Chosun dynasty, per Park. This interplay between modesty and seduction underscores Rocha's reverence for the female form, balancing traditional and Western influences. The unveiling of underlayers—be it corsetry, silk drapery, or delicate petticoats—adds a theatricality yet elegance. In one standout look, it appears some inspiration comes from a kinkier side of femineity, with a black leather corset that's reminiscent of BDSM subculture and style.
"The palette embodies a delicate harmony of soft, romantic hues contrasted with bold jet-black accents. My bridal look—a vision of purity and grace—is likened to a pearl within its shell... reflecting my vision of couture for the modern bride," Park added in show notes.
Bodices and accessories gleam with hand-inlaid embellishments, echoing traditional Korean flora and fauna, while Minhwa-inspired (Korean folk art) silhouettes are adorned with Swarovski crystals, beadwork, and Najeonchilgi. The couture designer's honor of traditional Korean artistry is seamlessly modernized through structured blazers and tailored jackets. By intertwining Korean craft and tradition with the bold femineity and sculptural precision of modern haute couture, Park delivers a collection that is as evocative as it is exquisite—where each piece tells a story of craftsmanship and culture.
