Concerned about wiring on light fixture replacement
I have had a florescent light fixture in our kitchen and it stopped working. Wanted to replace it anyways, so I took it out. I've done a decent amount of DIY stuff around house, but electrical work has been limited to replacing light fixtures, ceiling fans, etc. When I pulled out the fixture, the black and white wires ran from the box in the ceiling all the way into the ballast of the unit. I'm guessing that it was original to the house? I cut them and pulled the unit out. Anyways, I now have a black and white (hot and neutral) coming out of the box and want to know if this is something that I can strip the end of them and use them as any other black and white wires for a new fixture -- attach and put nuts at each end? My only concern is that this fixture went straight into the box, so I don't know if it's more complicated than that to install something new and I should call an electrician. Photos attached of the old unit, the wires where I cut them, and the box/wires coming out of the ceiling. https://preview.redd.it/temvatp9fi9f1.jpg?width=1560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfac27628f1ede62e50d7c2c582336163b57ad18 https://preview.redd.it/olousgzafi9f1.jpg?width=1560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c93874e666dae90d0de9c7a84ed60bb3ae0fefdb https://preview.redd.it/d3mud3edfi9f1.jpg?width=2080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d71f3a115dea51019460f8651383c4e788aea17 submitted by /u/Dry-Invite-4353 [link] [comments]
