Dan Da Dan season 2 premieres this summer, with a theatrical event first

Hit anime Dan Da Dan returns for its sophomore season this July, GKids announced Thursday, complete with a global theatrical premiere in June. The new season of Polygon’s second favorite anime of 2024 will continue the manga’s Cursed House Arc — which formed the cliffhanger end of season 1 — to the Evil Eye arc, in which teenage leads Momo and Okarun contend with a powerful, creepy-ass yokai possession.

Science SARU directors Fuga Yamashiro and Abel Gongora are teaming to co-direct the new season. Yamashiro helmed season 1, while Gongora directed the show’s opening theme animation. GKids’ news release did not include Dan Da Dan’s season 2 theme music, but it’ll be hard to beat Creepy Nuts’ “Otonoke,” which splashed across global and Japanese music charts — then again, that is simply The Way of anime openings.

The season’s theatrical premiere will bring “last season’s start of the Evil Eye arc, along with the first three episodes of the new second season” to theaters, along with a filmed interview with Yamashiro and Gongora, according to GKids’ news release. The episodes will arrive in Asian theaters on May 30, North American theaters on June 6, and European theaters on June 7, and will “cover over 50 countries and regions,” with further details to be announced later.

GKids’s news release does not include specific release date details on when Dan Da Dan season 2 will hit streaming — other than “July” — or on what services. But it seems likely that in the US Dan Da Dan season 2 will be available in the same places as season 1: Crunchyroll and Netflix.
