Diane von Furstenberg Responds After Husband Barry Diller Comes Out as Gay

After 50 years of partnership, fashion mogul Diane von Furstenberg and her husband and media titan Barry Diller are entering a new chapter—publicly, at least. Ahead of his forthcoming memoir, set to release May 20, Diller has come out as a gay man, opening up about his identity, his journey, and, most notably, his relationship with von Furstenberg.

For those unfamiliar, Diller is a significant figure in media and entertainment. He made his mark at ABC and Paramount Pictures before founding Fox Broadcasting Company. Later, he became chairman and senior executive of IAC and Expedia Group. With Diller a media mogul and von Furstenberg a fashion icon, the pair has long been considered a power couple—making Diller’s recent revelation all the more headline-worthy.

Despite their unconventional story, von Furstenberg's husband made one thing clear: his love for her has always been real. “While there have been a good many men in my life, there has only ever been one woman,” Diller writes in his upcoming memoir, Who Knew.

The revelation may be news to the world, but it’s not news to von Furstenberg. In fact, her response in The New York Times speaks volumes—not just about their relationship, but about acceptance and an unwavering connection between the two. “All I can tell you is Barry and I have had an incredible life, love for 50 years,” she said. “We have been lovers, friends, married, everything." 

She put it simply and in few words: “Today, he opened to the world. To me, he opened 50 years ago.”

Despite the personal revelation and the forthcoming release of Diller’s memoir, he and von Furstenberg remain married—and as far as reports indicate, there are no plans for that to change.
