Does this lamp wiring look safe?
My MIL asked me to repair this antique brass lamp. It's a converted oil lamp apparently. I've completely replaced the lampholder with a safer (brass) earthed version and replaced the wiring with double insulated 3 core and a push button switch. The previous wiring had the earth taped off which wasn't safe given its a metal lamp and the cloth sheathed wiring was heavily worn. I've had to strip the outer insulation (carefully) to allow the wiring to the switch. I've used two mini junctions to connect the earth and neutral wires up to the stem. This is the only part of the wiring that is not doubly insulated - hence my question about best practice here and whether or not this is safe. I've run continuity tests from the plug up to the lampholder to confirm all connections work as expected and the push button switch and lamp all work fine. I plan on covering the switch with gaffer tape (just to insulate it) and i've placed grommets on the cable to the stem and the exterior, with gaffer tape behind them to prevent the wiring being pulled and putting stress on the switch/junction connections. The base will be sealed with some cushioning with double sided tabs (there isn't a wooden base and the lamp is quite heavy itself) Is there anything else I need to do here? I'm wondering if I need to ask a qualified electrician to inspect/PAT test my work before I hand this over? Of course I want this to be safe to use.
