DRX has won the 2025 VCT Pacific Kickoff following a back-and-forth five-game series against fellow South Korean organisation T1.
As a result, DRX’s 3-2 victory has secured the organisation a first-seed slot at VALORANT Bangkok Masters.
DRX had already cemented its place at VALORANT’s first international event of the year after previously toppling T1 in a tense Upper Bracket Final.
With T1 dropping to the lower bracket, the team rallied past fellow South Korean organisation Gen.G on February 8th to secure its spot at VALORANT Masters Bangkok and create an anticipated rematch against DRX.
How the Series Unfolded
Taking palace on February 9th, the opening map was a far cry from the organisations’ close upper bracket matches, with DRX securing a comfortable 13-3 win on Abyss. This trend continued for the second match on Lotus, however, the roles this time were reversed.
Despite DRX losing the first five opening rounds the organisation managed to finish the half relatively even — securing five round wins compared to T1’s seven. The second half was a different story with T1, now on the attacking side, securing six rounds to end map two 13-6 in T1’s favour.
It was DRX that once again managed to gain the upper hand on map three, claiming a 13-9 win on Fracture thanks to a solid 8-4 first half when on defence.
The most entertaining matches in the series were undoubtedly the final two games, with both sides winning close maps. Map four on Bind went all the way to overtime with T1 ultimately taking the series to map five following a 14-12 victory. Little could split the two sides in the fourth game, with both teams recording identical 7-5 scorelines in each half.
Whilst the final match on Split didn’t go to overtime, it was as close as it could be with DRX beating T1 13-11 to take the trophy.
The series MVP went to Song ‘HYUNMIN’ Hyun-min, who recorded a total KDA of 92/82/12. To highlight how close the series was, T1’s Yu ‘BuZz’ Byung-chul — formerly of DRX — ended the match-up with over 100 kills (101/ 78 /20 KDA).
Following a weekend of VCT Kickoff action, all teams have now been confirmed for Masters Bangkok. Moreover, Riot Games has revealed the opening match-ups that will occur at the event.
Taking place on February 20th, DRX will face North America’s Sentinels.
Moreover, T1 will kick off its Master Bangkok journey against VCT EMEA Kickoff champions Team Vitality.
