G2 Esports has continued its winning streak against Sentinels in the VCT, defeating the organisation in a five-map series to claim the 2025 VCT Americas Kickoff trophy.
As a result, G2 Esports has become the first-ever Ascension team to win a VCT title after falling short twice in the 2024 Americas Stage 1 and Stage 2.
With this victory, G2 Esports also secured the Americas’ top seed for VALORANT Masters Bangkok 2025.
G2’s initiator Trent ‘trent’ Cairns earned the MVP title with an impressive performance, racking up 80 kills and an impressive 224 ACS throughout the series.
“I am so damn proud of my players for believing in the process. It’s been a long journey — honestly, it’s been like two, maybe three years for some of these guys. I’m so happy that I’ve been able to provide them with a path forward to realise their dreams—and mine too,” said Josh ‘JoshRT’ Lee, G2 Esports’ Valorant Head Coach, in the post-match interview.
How the Series Went Down
In what was a thrilling five-map series, Sentinels opened with a one-sided 13-4 win on Split. However, it was G2 that bounced back on Pearl 13-8, evening out the series at 1-1.
Sentinels then consistently held game three on Abyss (13-9) to regain the lead, but G2 refused to back down, securing a crucial 13-5 win on Fracture to push the series to a deciding map.
In the final map, G2 kept Sentinels on the back foot throughout the first half on Haven with a commanding 9-3 lead. However, as sides switched, Sentinels pulled off a comeback, closing the gap to 10-12.
Nevertheless, that was as close as Sentinels would get as G2 secured the final round to close out the map 13-10 and win the BO5 series 3-2.
G2 Esports and Sentinels will open in Masters Bangkok against Trace Esports and DRX, respectively. All matches will be streamed live on VALORANT Champions Tour’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
