DRX has defeated T1 in the VCT Pacific Kickoff Upper Bracket Final to become the first team in the region to advance to VALORANT Masters Bangkok.

The Korean organisation will be playing a Masters event for the first time since VALORANT Masters Tokyo 2023, even though DRX qualified for last year’s VALORANT Champions.

It was not an easy win for the team, with DRX going through a tough series against T1. Fans watching the match got to see comebacks, clutches, an overtime map and a three-map series as well.

Alongside beating T1, DRX also defeated two of the team’s ex-teammates Yu ‘BuZz‘ Byung-chul and Kim ‘stax‘ Gu-taek.

In the post-match interview, DRX player Kang ‘BeYN’ Ha-bin said: “I can’t believe that we won and although I made all of those fiery comments to stax, I feel bad for my team that I didn’t really pull my way, so I am really thankful for my team.

“I’m really grateful and I’ll try to show my best performance in Masters Bangkok.”

In game one, DRX was initially dominant on Lotus, but a timeout was all T1 needed to bounce back and make things competitive. The first half ended at 7-5, despite DRX putting a 6-0 lead on the board in the beginning. T1 carried the momentum into the second half to win the first map by 13-11.

The second map, Haven, didn’t favour one side as DRX and T1 were both snatching away leads, maintaining a tight scoreline. The map went into overtime twice, but DRX pushed through to the end to take the series to a decider.

In Fracture DRX kept T1 on the back foot for most of the map, bringing the scoreline to 11-5. However, T1 started winning round after round to narrow the gap to 10-11.

DRX won the next round, even though T1 had a numbers advantage, to reach map point. Then DRX’s star initiator, Cho ‘Flashback‘ Min-hyuk, clutched the final round on defence to seal the deal for the team at 13-10.

Talking about the match-winning clutch, Flashback said, “Of course, I am happy and lately, I don’t think my confidence was at its peak, but I think it’s my teammates who helped me gain my confidence back so that I could seal that deal on Fracture.”

The loss doesn’t mean the end of the road for T1, as the team will face the winner of Talon vs. Gen.G in the Lower Bracket Final for another chance to make it to Masters Bangkok and face DRX in the Grand Final.

On the other hand, fans will catch DRX on stage on February 9th, fighting for the VCT Pacific Kickoff trophy and the first seed for Masters Bangkok.
