Enclosed porch floor repair
My house was built in 1920 by a crew that didn't own tapes, squares, levels or sense. So I run into all kinds of wonderful stuff that needs fixed. This spring, I plan on fixing my front porch floor. It was originally a covered porch that they enclosed at some point. The floor is, surprisingly, sloped as an exterior porch should be. However, it's framed with 2x4's. I plan on sistering 2x6's to the joists. My two questions; would you level the 2x6's to take the slope out? I would have to reframe the front door, so I didn't think it would be worth the extra work. And, ventilation and insulation? Online searches give mixed answers from "experts". It is an inaccessible crawlspace. They just put a block foundation under the porch. It is not conditioned and I don't plan on it being. I planned on putting plastic on the ground. Should I put foam board on the walls? What would you suggest for insulation under the floor? And should it be sealed or vented? There is currently one small vent (about 8"x12") on one side of the foundation. Thanks in advance for all responses. submitted by /u/Sideshow79 [link] [comments]
