Extremely nervous about drilling into mystery wall

I'm trying to do a gallery wall in my stairwell. I could not use nails (they would bend) on the wall so I attempted to use my drill. Apparently the drill wasn't strong enough so I got a 20v one instead and a drill bit that is supposed to work on concrete and brick. The guy at the hardware store said to go really slow and use a bit of water-- I don't want to force it by pushing really, but the bit seems to have stopped about half an inch short of where I want. The dust that is coming out looks like brick once you get a bit deeper. (see picture) I got a studfinder mainly because I was scared of hitting electrical wires or a pipe or something. exactly how hard is it to drill through brick? If I hit this layer of brick, seems unlikely that it would be a super think layer of brick with metal under it.. (If it's relevant, the bones of this house are about a 100 years old, but it was renovated about a decade ago). https://preview.redd.it/wd1b63l93cpe1.jpg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac78394ee0fc547926bc2e4c78309617aaecfb60 submitted by /u/vkurian [link] [comments]
