The Fendi baguette—with its rectangular shape, flap closure, and FF logo buckle—has long been a staple in the closets of fashion-forward folks, both in real life and on the screen. It's, for example, the bag Carrie Bradshaw famously toted around the streets of '90s Manhattan in Sex and the City. The Mamma Baguette, with its spacious size, is the more practical version of the it-bag, at least for those who chronically stuff their purse. Now it's being reintroduced with a contemporary look, showcasing the transcendence of the timeless accessory.
The Fendi Mamma Baguette, conceptualized in 1997 by Silvia Venturini, pays homage to Fendi's co-founder and matriarch, Adele Casagrande Fendi. Its refresh was first showcased on the Spring/Summer 2025 runway. The new version of Mamma Baguette is crafted from buttery soft Nappa leather and features a tactile drawstring closure. Though the bag is traditionally worn on the shoulder, models pranced down the runway carrying it around their wrists, much more like a clutch, proving its versatility.
The bag now comes in a sophisticated and coquettish color palette of dove, black and white, pale pink, sage, and matcha green. These are enriched with unique seasonal floral embroideries on both bead and suede bases. There's also a luxurious black python version. Plus, its signature FF logo buckle is now a bit more subtle, inlaid with leather in a nod to Fendi's leather heritage.
Upon hearing the word "baguette," some may think of the lengthy French bread, but for fashion lovers, the word has an entirely different meaning (that is equally as delicious). The new version of the bag is available to shop this February, and it will be available on Fendi's website and at select stores.
