Garance Vallée Looks to the Future With "2093" Collection

Paris-based architect and designer Garance Vallée has unveiled her first-ever furniture collection, which is made up of five pieces inspired by the not-so-distant future. Designed alongside gallery Monde Singulier, the "2093" collection features a lamp, armchair, candelabra, console and bed. Each stands out against the silver-toned scenography, which is made up of a plush carpet and moire patterned curtains."I wanted to open the door to the vulnerable, intimate space of the bedroom and project it into the near future. Like a futuristic dream marked by my past,” Vallée says. For the bed, she created a wooden shell that surrounds the custom-sized mattress. Within this frame, niches are clad with metal, creating shelving on the headboard and a tray for small belongings on the side. The same metal details are repeated across a couple of the other pieces in the collection. The console features brushed metal across its legs (which double up as little cabinets), while the lamp makes use of the material across its main body, with the shade crafted from frosted glass.Color is introduced into the collection on the chair, for which a deep red lacquer was used to coat the arms. The new set of pieces is complete by the candelabra. Cast in wrought iron, the piece has a harder edge from a material and color perspective, but is softened by the curving shapes of the individual arms.2093 was on show during this year's Milan Design Week, which comes to a close tomorrow, April 13.
