Marriott selling gift cards at a discount
Marriott has just launched a 15% off sale for the purchase of gift cards. This promotion is targeted at those who have a US-issued Marriott Bonvoy credit card, and it’s also likely targeted beyond that. In order to take advantage of this offer, check your email, and look for a one-time redemption code. The email I received has the subject line “Ends April 18: Card Members Save 15% on eGiftCards.”
Here are the details of the offer for a 15% discount on Marriott gift card purchases:
- This is only available to US Marriott Bonvoy credit card members who receive an email about the offer
- Gift cards must be purchased by 11:59PM ET on Friday, April 18, 2025
- The one-time cost is valid for a single transaction for the purchase of one or more electronic gift cards, totaling up to $1,000 USD in value
- The discount applies to electronic gift cards purchased in USD, though the gift cards can be used globally (the exchange rate might be slightly worse than market rates)
- Gift cards will be delivered electronically within seven business of an order being placed
- Gift cards don’t expire
- Gift cards can’t be used to pay for a pre-purchased rate
- Gift cards can’t be used with Bulgari, Design Hotels, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, Ritz-Carlton Residences, and Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection
I’m not sure if this is still the case, but at least going back several years, buying Marriott gift cards coded as a travel purchase. Personally I would buy gift cards with the Chase Sapphire Reserve, so I could earn 3x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent.
Alternatively, you could earn 6x Bonvoy points when paying with Marriott co-branded cards. Based on my valuation of points, using the Sapphire Reserve gets you a ~5.1% return on that spending, while I value 6x Bonvoy points at a ~4.2% return.
This is a good deal if you can swing it
If you stay at Marriotts with any frequency and are in a position where you can buy gift cards at a discount, then I’d consider doing so. The gift cards don’t expire, and getting a 15% discount on gift cards is pretty awesome. You might as well save $150 that you’d otherwise spend.
The last time that I recall seeing such an offer was at the very start of the pandemic, in 2020, so it has been some time, and this isn’t a frequent offer.
Bottom line
Marriott has a targeted promotion whereby it’s selling gift cards for 15% off, on up to $1,000 in gift card purchases. These gift cards don’t expire and can be used at most Marriott brands globally.
This offer seems to be specifically targeted at those with a co-branded credit card in the United States, and you need a one-time code to use this offer, so check your email for eligibility.
