Hatsune Miku gets her first ever movie

Iconic vocaloid superstar Hatsune Miku’s first ever theatrical feature hits North American theaters this spring. Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing originally debuted in Japan on Jan. 27.

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is specifically based on popular gacha rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. The game itself doesn’t really feature Miku beyond the music. Instead the story focuses more on the other characters, who can all enter an alternate world called SEKAI, where they express their true feelings via music.

In addition to new characters, A Miku Who Can’t Sing will feature some of the characters from the game, with the voice cast returning to their roles. For instance, the film’s main character is Hoshino Ichika, who plays in a band in Colorful Stage. Movie Ichika stumbles upon a version of Miku who is unable to sing, and this Miku asks Ichika to help her reach others through her music.

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing hits theaters on April 11.
