How does Faint Penalty work in Monster Hunter Wilds
If you have completed a few hunts in Monster Hunter Wilds, you have likely encountered something called Faint Penalty when the hunt is over. Once you complete a hunt, you'll get a lot of money, but the amount will depend on how many times you fainted. Unlike typical RPGs, death doesn't mean the hunt is over, but understanding Faints will help you understand the importance of preserving your health as much as possible. What is Faint Penalty in Monster Hunter Wilds Unlike the monster being hunted, you have a health bar displayed at the top-left of the screen. If your health reaches zero, the screen will go dark. Usually, you would die, but in Monster Hunter Wilds you Faint instead. The next animation shows your body being carried on a cart by Palicos, who miserably throws you on the ground. Don't be disappointed because fainting doesn't mean your hunt is over. Instead, your health is restored, and supplies have been restocked. You're free to jump back into the hunt and continue your progress. You may have healed when you fainted, but the same can't be said about the monster. All this might sound like faints are a good thing. However, it makes a lot of sense not to faint at all, and the following section will explain the penalty. Screenshot by Destructoid Why should you avoid Faint Penalty in Monster Hunter Wilds You can't faint as many times as you want. While fainting once is okay, the Zenny you receive after completing the hunt will be automatically reduced. Usually, most hunts will be over once you have fainted for the third time. The reason is simple: when you faint for the third time, your Zenny amount as available rewards drops to 0 (drops by 1/3rd every time you faint). You should be safe in certain quests until you have fainted for the fifth time. Ideally, try not to faint too often, as you'll have to begin your hunt from scratch. Despite all the negative aspects of the system, I still like how the Faint Penalty works in Monster Hunter Wilds. It allows you to come back from a mistake you might have made and saves a lot of time in the process. The post How does Faint Penalty work in Monster Hunter Wilds appeared first on Destructoid.
