There’s an item duplication cheat in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. This is obviously a bug or a glitch and is, technically, a way to cheat. With all those items, though, you can sell them for infinite money.
Our Oblivion Remastered guide will tell how to do the item duplication cheat for infinite money.
Item duplication cheat steps in Oblivion Remastered
You need two things for this cheat to work: a storage container like a chest, barrel, or crate and several (like five or more) of the item you want to duplicate. Any chest or barrel or crate or sack will work — the only question is how far you have to haul your ill-gotten gains. The chest doesn’t even have to be empty.
We’ll use arrows for our example because they’re something you probably already have a lot of.
It’s best to do this someplace close to a vendor since you’ll likely end up overburdened. We suggest heading to the Imperial City Market District. Off to the west, you’ll find a small courtyard with a lot of crates and barrels that is surrounded by merchants of all sorts.
- Open the crate (or barrel or chest or whatever) and then click the right thumbstick to search it. This opens your inventory next to the crate’s inventory and lets you stash stuff in it.
- Select one of the item you want to duplicate — click on it, and then hit the left shoulder button (LB or L1) to drop the number to one. Confirm that, and it will move to the crate.
- Still in your inventory and still with the item you want to duplicate selected, hit RB + A/R1 + X at the same time (with a keyboard, you do this by holding down shift). This will pull up the quantity select screen again. This time, dump all of the item into the crate.
- If you did it right (the timing is a little tricky at first), none of the items will leave your inventory, the crate will still only have one of the items, and the screen will have tabbed over to select the crate’s inventory.
- Select the item you just added and return it to your inventory. The quantity you have will (should) double.
You can repeat that as many times as you want. Just be aware that you’ll end up overburdened in a hurry.
How to sell your duplicated items in Oblivion Remastered
There’s no trick to selling your duplicated items, but there is a bit of strategy. First, you need to find a vendor that even buys the item you’ve duplicated.
We’ll ignore the seller’s disposition and your Mercantile skill — they don’t really matter for what we’re doing.
At the top of any merchant’s list of wares, you’ll see an amount of money. This is not really how much money they have. Instead, this is the maximum transaction they can do. In the image above, Calindil has 1,000 gold, so he can never buy anything for more than that.
The trick here is that merchants have infinite money, so you can just keep performing transactions just under their cap all day long.
