Fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds is a bit more involved than your standard mini-game, yet when hunting a Whooper, you may find yourself rather pressed. Fortunately, I've caught quite a few already and can provide you with the intel to catch some yourself. Where to find a Whooper in Monster Hunter Wilds If you're looking for a Whooper fish, chances are, you've already been progressing down Kanya's fishing questline in Monster Hunter Wilds. In standard Monster Hunter fashion, Kanya doesn't explain where you can find a Whooper, but, thankfully, they aren't all that rare if you know where to look. Screenshot by Destructoid Whoopers are most commonly found in the Scarlet Forest, specifically Area 17, Great Shore Lake. Monsters do not come to this area as it is a designated mega-fishing zone. When heading over to it, I highly recommend setting up a Pop-up camp so you can fast-travel to this location whenever you need to get some quality fishing done. Whoopers are pudgy-looking fish, but they do not always spawn when you need them to. The time of day and environmental season both actively play a role in what fish spawn. The quantity in a school, and where they'll be, is also affected by these two factors. So, if you don't see any Whoopers, return to the Pop-up camp and change the time of day and season to Morning and Fallow. Then, return to the shoreline and look for them again. Select your fishing rod and make sure the lure you're using is set to Tuff Joint Bait. This is extremely important as without it, the odds of you catching a Whooper is next to none. If you don't have access to Tuff Joint Bait, then you need to progress further on Kanya's Fishing questline. When she tasks you with catching a Whooper, you'll receive the required bait. With your rod cast, wait for a Whooper to bite down. This may require some time and a little line jigging on your end. Use Slow Reel when a Whooper is near to attempt to attract one to your line. When one finally does bite down, unlike all the other fish you've caught, Whoopers are considered large-scale fish, which means you'll need to play an additional mini-game to reel it in. This means you'll need to guide your line in the same direction the Whooper is pulling it. If you don't, your line will break, losing it. Whoopers will constantly change directions, so you'll need to be paying attention the entire time you have one on the line. Whoopers will also leap out of the water to try and get free. Restrain your line so that it does not break during this incursion. Eventually, Whoopers will tire themselves out trying to break free and slow down. During this time, use Quick Reel to pull the fish in as fast as possible. You will likely need to do this several times, as tired Whoopers will still attempt to fight back on occasion.
