How to get Adra in Avowed

Adra is one of the most important upgrade materials you'll need in Avowed, as it's required to increase the 'quality' of any given weapon or piece of armor. This makes your gear significantly more powerful, allowing you to take on the challenges that come later in the game. A material this useful isn't easy to come by, though, so we'll run you through all the methods of getting Adra in Avowed right here. Every way to get Adra in Avowed There are four different ways you can get Adra: Buying it from merchants Finding it in chests Exploring high-level areas and defeating enemies Breaking down lesser-used unique gear I've explained each of these in more detail below, but if you're looking for a quick and easy list, there you have it. Buying Adra from Merchants Some merchants in Avowed will have Adra available for sale, but keep in mind it won't be cheap. A merchant in the corner of Fior that sells weapons and armor will also have one or two Adra available for around 1,500 gold each. Not every merchant carries this rare material, so it's worth checking in with each one in the various regions you visit to check. Unfortunately, in my experience, they don't restock it, so once you've bought it, you've had your lot. Finding it in chests Adra can also be found in chests hidden away throughout the world of Avowed. Chests of all different rarities can be found in built-up towns and the wilderness. Screenshot by Destructoid Chests that contain Adra have often been well hidden and tucked away, or in more challenging areas of the world guarded by stronger enemies. They'll also typically have a gold glow when you approach them. The blue and white glowing chests aren't going to contain this rare material, but the purple glowing chests have a low chance in my experience. Spot a gold glowing chest, though, and there's a chance you'll find some Adra inside. Exploring high-level areas and defeating enemies Similar to the point above, Adra can be tucked away in 'areas of high challenge' as the game's tutorial says. From my experience, though, these do seem to be a little different from where chests containing it are placed. For example, after defeating a rather strong troll, I found some Adra on its body. This doesn't seem to be anywhere near as common, but if you're suitably leveled and geared up, it might be worth taking on some of the tough bounties in each region as the gear your targets hold (and have stashed away in chests) is pretty valuable. More often than not you can get some Adra from human bounties, too. Breaking down lesser-used unique gear You can think of Avowed's 'unique gear' as Fallout's 'legendary gear.' These weapons and armor will have slightly improved stats over their ordinary counterparts, but also come with an enchantment or two that will grant an additional buff. This might be adding some fire damage to each attack, or recovering a percentage of your maximum health each time you defeat an enemy. Screenshot by Destructoid Over time, unless you spend crafting materials upgrading them, you'll find that unique gear you picked up earlier on in your adventure just strong enough to use anymore. At this stage, go into your inventory, select it, and press and hold X to dismantle it. By breaking it down, you'll get some Adra. The amount will depend on how much you've upgraded it and how powerful it is. How to get Awakened Adra After you've upgraded your gear to a certain level, you'll need Awakened Adra to increase the 'quality level' of your gear. This is even more difficult to find, but the more powerful weapons you'll need to take on the latter stages of the game, of course, cost more money to buy and are generally harder to come by. Awakened Adra is quite valuable to have then. Screenshot by Destructoid Awakened Adra can be crafted at your Workbench in your Party Camp with three Adra. It can also be purchased from some merchants in latter areas of the game for about 1,875 gold, and in some very rare cases, from chests in challenging areas of the world. That's everything you need to know on how to get Adra in Avowed.

Every way to get Adra in Avowed

There are four different ways you can get Adra:

  • Buying it from merchants
  • Finding it in chests
  • Exploring high-level areas and defeating enemies
  • Breaking down lesser-used unique gear

I've explained each of these in more detail below, but if you're looking for a quick and easy list, there you have it.

Buying Adra from Merchants

Some merchants in Avowed will have Adra available for sale, but keep in mind it won't be cheap.

Finding it in chests

Adra can also be found in chests hidden away throughout the world of Avowed. Chests of all different rarities can be found in built-up towns and the wilderness.

Chests that contain Adra have often been well hidden and tucked away, or in more challenging areas of the world guarded by stronger enemies. They'll also typically have a gold glow when you approach them. The blue and white glowing chests aren't going to contain this rare material, but the purple glowing chests have a low chance in my experience. Spot a gold glowing chest, though, and there's a chance you'll find some Adra inside.

Exploring high-level areas and defeating enemies

Similar to the point above, Adra can be tucked away in 'areas of high challenge' as the game's tutorial says.

Breaking down lesser-used unique gear

You can think of Avowed's 'unique gear' as Fallout's 'legendary gear.' These weapons and armor will have slightly improved stats over their ordinary counterparts, but also come with an enchantment or two that will grant an additional buff. This might be adding some fire damage to each attack, or recovering a percentage of your maximum health each time you defeat an enemy.

Over time, unless you spend crafting materials upgrading them, you'll find that unique gear you picked up earlier on in your adventure just strong enough to use anymore. At this stage, go into your inventory, select it, and press and hold X to dismantle it. By breaking it down, you'll get some Adra. The amount will depend on how much you've upgraded it and how powerful it is.

How to get Awakened Adra

After you've upgraded your gear to a certain level, you'll need Awakened Adra to increase the 'quality level' of your gear. This is even more difficult to find, but the more powerful weapons you'll need to take on the latter stages of the game, of course, cost more money to buy and are generally harder to come by. Awakened Adra is quite valuable to have then.

Awakened Adra can be crafted at your Workbench in your Party Camp with three Adra. It can also be purchased from some merchants in latter areas of the game for about 1,875 gold, and in some very rare cases, from chests in challenging areas of the world.

That's everything you need to know on how to get Adra in Avowed. For more on the game, we've got you covered with detailed breakdowns on the Dawntreader side quest, the best background to pick, and whether you should confront the smugglers or report the refugees to Captain Aelfyr.
