Give our Rune Slayer beginner’s guide a look to find out how to cheese the Vampiric Dragon Lord boss at level 1. Nevertheless, even without cheesing, he’s completely beatable if you parry and slide accordingly. What helped me beat the boss was practicing on the skeletons beforehand. Tip: The regeneration from the Vampiric Ring gets INSANE late-game, so hold on to it and make up the money with ores and wood you’ve farmed. Accept EVERY Quest in Wayshire Screenshot by Destructoid Most of these initial quests are incredibly easy. Even killing the Barracuda in the water isn’t that difficult to solo if you have a tankier class. Not to mention, a lot of the quests overlap. For instance, Ali’s quest to kill Mandrakes is the same as the Eliminate Mandrakes job from the Job Board. Turn them in together to get all the XP at once and level up before you head to a new area or fight a boss. I’ve been able to reach level 10 in about 20-30 minutes on Archer, Warrior and Thief, so I reckon you could pull off the same. Just group the quests and don’t forget to eat, especially if you’re doing 3+ quests at a time. Tip: Don’t miss the Mandrake King! Best Ways to Level Up Fast in Rune Slayer
There’s no single best way to farm XP in this game, but there are several ways you can boost your level-up rate, especially in the beginning. Do all these things and you’ll get to level 40 in Rune Slayer in no time:
Pick up the Vampiric Ring
Getting a legendary item + XP at level 1? Yes, please. Not only is this item sellable later on, but the life drain is invaluable at the beginning of the game. Give our Rune Slayer beginner’s guide a look to find out how to cheese the Vampiric Dragon Lord boss at level 1.

Tip: The regeneration from the Vampiric Ring gets INSANE late-game, so hold on to it and make up the money with ores and wood you’ve farmed.
Accept EVERY Quest in Wayshire
Most of these initial quests are incredibly easy.

Tip: Don’t miss the Mandrake King! Once you help Ali with the Mandrakes on his Farm, you’ll get a Lantern, which allows you to see in the dark. You can find out all about how to craft Lanterns later on in our Rune Slayer crafting guide.
The Mandrake King is located on the far end of the farm, in the big hole. If someone else has a lantern, you don’t need to bother.
Farm Goblins and Bosses at Levels 10-20
Once you reach level 10, you can start exploring the Wilderness around Wayshire. To get to level 20 as fast as possible, head straight to the Goblin Caves.
They’re located East of Wayshire, and the entrance is on the left side of the big hill. The spawn points aren’t randomized, so you can farm them as much as you want.
The Razor Fang boar boss is also a great choice + he drops a lot of mats, plus the occasional item.
Tip: You can cheese Razor Fang by letting your pet tank him. Occasionally, he’ll become enraged and start swinging his tusks in rapid succession. Just make sure your pet is at full health and you’ll handle him easily.
Get a Mount the Moment You Reach Level 20
Mounts increase your movement speed drastically, increasing the efficiency of everything from completing quests to farming ore. To mount your pet in Rune Slayer, you have to talk to Jimmy the Stable Master, complete the first quest and start the second one.
Your objective will be to go to Ashenshire, the second area, and talk to the NPC located immediately to the right of the rope you’ve just climbed. No matter what you’re doing, drop it the moment you’re level 20 and pick up the Saddle allowing you to mount the pet.
Tip: Don’t go looking for crocodiles to tame if you want to mount them—they’ve been removed from the mount list by the devs recently. The snakes look just as cool, though.
Focus More on Crafting During Levels 20-30
While you can zoom through Wayshire and the Wilderness pretty easily with Copper or Iron weapons, you will get battered after level 10 if you don’t start crafting. The formula is simple—the more you craft, the more you unlock recipes for better and more powerful items.
Since the endgame comparatively has more content, the level 20-30 period is the best for crafting. You’re already powerful enough, and the quests aren’t too cumbersome.
Tip: Once you upgrade your weapon, craft the best possible armor. It might take some farming, but I was able to gather enough ore to smelt after 6-7 quests. Of course, this depends on your approach, too.
What to Do After Level 30 in Rune Slayer
Once you reach level 30 in Rune Slayer, the game gets much more serious. In particular, two things will happen:
- You’ll unlock Multi-class. It’s self-explanatory, isn’t it? You can basically pick another class whose powers you can use next to your main class. My current favorite is the Archer Thief (yeah, I played too much stealth archer in Skyrim, you’ve guessed it).
- You’ll lose XP once you die. If you’re wondering how to level up fast in Rune Slayer after level 30, the answer is—teamwork. Play with other players, because every time someone or something kills you, you’ll go back to the beginning of your current level’s XP.
By now, you should’ve already killed the Basilisk, the final boss of the Ashenshire zone. If that’s the case, go back South and choose whether you want to go to Lakeshire or Hell. This is important because you’ll have to join either the Holy Knights (Lakeshire) or Evil Knights (Hell).
My advice would be to pick the Holy Knights since Lakeshire has easier quests and the mobs aren’t as tough. To join them, go to the base behind the Lakeshire settlement and talk to the blonde NPC inside. Once you join, you’ll gain access to a host of quests. Most of them are repeatable and involve killing mobs.
The Troll Cave in particular is great for farming since the Troll King respawns every 3-4 minutes and can easily be taken down by a team of two players.
How to Get to Level 40 Fast in Rune Slayer
Balgaron Chasm (Hell) is the home of the Evil Knights and the final zone in Rune Slayer. Just talk to Sigurd in the Templar base, by the elevator and he’ll open the door for you.
Then, you’ll be able to farm Imps and do quests.
However, be careful when facing the Imps. They’re tanky, hit hard and have a nasty Fireball cast that pushes you off the map. If possible, team up with other people and grind it out. You should be thinking about endgame weapons and armor at this point, too.
Congratulations, now you know how to level up fast in Rune Slayer. You’re level 40, so all that’s left for you to do is gank other players, farm the Colosseum bosses, and scour the Rune Slayer Trello and Discord for the freshest meta builds.
