Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta’s major makeover: New restaurants, redesigned rooms and more

Hyatt’s Ziva and Zilara all-inclusive brands are some of the most popular in Hyatt’s inclusive collection, with locations in major vacation destinations in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

Now, Mexico’s family-friendly Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta has unveiled a multimillion-dollar renovation that’s elevating the points resort to a new level.

Changes can be seen across the resort, which, at the time of TPG’s last visit in 2018, left us wanting a little more.

Now, the resort’s North Tower, composed of 244 guest rooms, has been given a head-to-toe makeover. Accommodation upgrades include new ocean-inspired decor, all-new sliding glass doors to balconies and outdoor spaces, smart TVs, Nespresso machines and new air-conditioning systems to help combat the tropical heat.

Guests can book a number of room types, but there’s nothing more fun than a swim-up room that makes it possible to roll out of bed, open the door and wade right into the water. And, thanks to the resort’s beachfront location, you can take in those breathtaking views straight from the pool.

Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta has plenty of restaurants to choose from, including Blaze, a seaside grill with outdoor dining; a Vietnamese and Thai restaurant; a Mexican joint; and Italian offerings. As part of the resort’s upgrades, a new Asian fusion restaurant, Tamari, will add teppanyaki-style dining to the property.

Later this year, a new Italian restaurant called Melanzanne will also open at the property.

On the bar front, guests can continue to enjoy poolside and beachside drinks, a sports bar and a rooftop cocktail experience.

The resort’s kids club also got a jungle-themed redesign, making it the perfect place for kids ages 4 to 12 to hang out while the adults in their lives enjoy all the property’s adult-oriented offerings, like the VitaMar Spa.

Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta’s event spaces have undergone a transformation, too. Among the upgrades is a new terrace that offers sweeping 360-degree views of the tropical landscape and the Pacific Ocean.

“These updates not only enhance the guest experience but also reinforce our commitment to setting new standards in all-inclusive luxury through elevated accommodations and innovative experiences,” Fernando Mulet, executive vice president and chief investment officer of Playa Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement.

Over recent years, all-inclusive resorts have been redefining themselves and the sector by focusing on and improving the negative stereotypes the know-what-you-pay-up-front resorts tend to draw, like bad food, watered-down drinks and stale design.

Hyatt has been a leader in the space, recently launching a new high-end all-inclusive brand, Impression by Secrets, that’s helping redefine the space — and giving World of Hyatt members beautiful new places to earn and redeem points, including Impression Moxche by Secrets, a Mexican property that TPG said “could be the best all-inclusive resort in Playa del Carmen.”

Out in the Caribbean, Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, part of a massive resort complex in the Dominican Republic with an adults-only side and a family-friendly side, continue to be two of the crown properties in Hyatt’s all-inclusive collection. (The latter also happens to be one of this hotel reporter’s favorite all-inclusive resorts in the world.)

How to book Hyatt Ziva Puerta Vallarta

Rates at Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta for two people start around $430 per night. On Hyatt’s all-inclusive resort award chart, this resort is classified as a Category D property, meaning award nights start from 25,000 points per night, based on double occupancy.
