Is this cabinet back panel load-bearing, or can I safely remove it for a dishwasher install?
I’m retrofitting a dishwasher into this base cabinet (photo attached). The depth is slightly short at 23.5" and I need it to be 24" so the dishwasher door sits flush. I plan to remove the parts in red but I want to confirm — is this plywood/MDF panel at the back load-bearing in any way? From what I can tell, it’s just the rear panel of the cabinet box, and the countertop seems supported by the side walls that I don't plan to touch. The wall behind the panel is drywall, I don't plan on cutting into that. Before I cut into it, I want to make sure I’m not compromising anything structural. Any insights from people who’ve done similar retrofits would be much appreciated. submitted by /u/throwawaycar2016 [link] [comments]
