General Headquarters, or GHQ, is a board game designed by Kurt Vonnegut that was long thought to be lost. But not only was it found, cleaned up, and packaged for sale, it’s back in stock at Barnes & Noble after a period of being unavailable. The game designer Geoff Engelstein who was pivotal to its existence confirmed via BlueSky that GHQ is available once again for $34.99.
In an late 2024 interview with Polygon, Engelstein shared how he discovered the game’s resources in the archives at Indiana University and brought it to life with permission from the Vonnegut estate. The story of its discovery is worth reading, and it’s worth celebrating that Vonnegut designed a game before later continuing to produce even more excellent written work.
