Marvel Rivals’ costume recolors arrive soon, bringing palette swaps to select skins—for a price
Marvel Rivals' latest addition to its in-game store is set to be available tomorrow, but further details about what the "Costume Customization" feature will entail aren't clear. NetEase Games confirmed that the recently announced feature will be arriving as part of an update in the early morning hours of April 17. The update will bring "fresh palettes" for certain costumes and heroes in the game. So, basically, they are recolors. https://twitter.com/MarvelRivals/status/1912536469614330159 Pricing on the recolors were not announced ahead of time, but they will be purchasable presumably on an individual level once they are live in the store. For this week's drop, there is the Rosy Resilience color for Magik's Punkchild costume, Phantom Purple color for Psylocke's Vengeance costume, Plasma Pulse color for Luna Snow's Mirae 2099 costume, and Winter's Wrath color for Winter Soldier's Revolution costume. This feels like a missed opportunity for Marvel Rivals, and one of the few missteps the game has had since launch. All of the heroes have a palette swap for their default skin, so it seems like this will just be another version of that for select costumes in the game that NetEase deems "your favorite costumes." It would've been a bit cooler if the palette swaps worked like shaders for each costume in the game, allowing you to swap the colorway of several skins instead of just recolored skins. If they function as other recolors, these new ones will cost around 600 Units. And that's fine, as it's entirely optional, but I do wish the game did something a bit different this time around. It's yet to be determined how costume recolors are chosen, but it appears that they may just be added to the store periodically and function as new skins rather than a different feature. We'll see what's new or different about the costume colors when they go live early tomorrow morning.
