TL;DR
- Gen.G are the clear favourites to win MSI 2025, riding the momentum from a strong LCK season and going undefeated.
- T1 is a strong contender, usually able to clutch it out when it matters
- Anyone’s Legend has been the best and most consistent Chinese team this season.
- Gen.G Chovy – the Korean mid laner has been the best player in the world in the past few months, pulling off big carry performances consistently.
- FlyQuest might be able to pull off an upset against an Eastern team thanks to their creativity, and CTBC Flying Oyster might beat expectations given their previous international performance.
The 2025 Mid‑Season Invitational (MSI) is set to take over Vancouver’s iconic Pacific Coliseum from June 27 to July 12, featuring the best teams across five major regions competing for a share of the $2 million prize pool and the qualification to the League of Legends World Championship. From title favourites to sleeper picks, here’s our breakdown of who’s expected to win it all and who might flip the script.
MSI 2025 Picks
Placement | Team / Player | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Winner | Gen.G | The defending MSI champions. The team went undefeated in the LCK so far. A fully-stacked roster that is incredibly consistent and plays a defensive style that slowly chokes out enemies. |
Runner-up | T1 | T1 has been on a resurgence as of late and has looked a lot more convincing, having found a clear identity on how the team plays. If players are on form, they are serious contenders for the title. |
Third place | Anyone’s Legend | Consistently strong in the LPL, the team has an aggressive playstyle and has been able to take advantage of the Fearless Draft format with great flexibility among all players. |
MVP | GEN Chovy | The best individual player in the world. He gapped the rest of the mid laners in the LCK, which is already known for being the crème de la crème. |
Dark horse | FlyQuest | FlyQuest has previously proven to us at Worlds 2024 that they can come up with innovative angles and drafts to throw off their opponents. Looking even stronger this season with no roster changes, they might upset the odds. |
Our MSI 2025 Predictions
Biggest surprise – CTBC Flying Oyster
Following the merger of the LCP, the league has become much stronger than people had anticipated. In particular, CTBC Flying Oyster (CFO) did an incredible job at First Stand, coming close to defeating the LEC teams and showing the organisation has put together a formidable roster with great potential.

Even though they had a shaky playoff run and were almost defeated by the Vietnamese team GAM Esports, I believe CFO can do well and fight much closer to the best teams in the world at MSI. If jungler Junjia is on form, he will be able to lead the team and put his carries in a comfortable position to fight on even terms. A top-four finish might be out of reach, but anything close to that would be a great result for them and the LCP region.
Best newcomer – AL Shanks
Even though Shanks is technically not a rookie, this is going to be the player’s first international appearance, coming in as one of the best players in his role. The Chinese mid laner has consistently been a hidden gem in the LPL, often outperforming on mid-to-bottom-tier teams. He has been able to show a wide champion pool throughout the season, often finding advantages in the early phases of the game. Together with his jungler, Shanks has been key.
Biggest upsets – G2 Esports and FlyQuest
G2 hasn’t been as dominant in Europe as in previous years, and they come into this tournament with much lower expectations. That being said, the team has often been able to find something when it comes to international tournaments, and they could once again at MSI.
G2’s potential as a team is still high, but the main issue has been the players’ individual fluctuations in form. If they can somehow find consistency and improve their synergy, especially in jungle-support, then G2 might pull off something unexpected.

FlyQuest comes in with higher expectations compared to G2, but there are enough reasons to believe the team might have what it takes to take down an Eastern team. Jungler Inspired has been the best Western player in his role in 2025, and FlyQuest has been willingly stepping out of the comfort zone with creative picks, something that can make a huge difference in Fearless Draft.
Conclusion
Even though the tournament has clear favourites in Gen.G, MSI 2025 has several other teams that can shake up the scripts. T1 and Anyone’s Legend are well-equipped to challenge Gen.G’s dominance, while FlyQuest and CTBC Flying Oyster, despite not being potential title contenders, have the creativity and international experience that could lead to upsets. And don’t count out experienced teams like G2 — MSI often delivers surprises, and this year should be no exception.
