My design for some built ins using all IKEA products: is this design structurally sound, and if so/ not, how do I ensure max structural integrity?
Above is my design, and the exact products and dimensions for this project. I’ve included an inspo pic at the end, but the difference between theirs and mine is: - I have a gap between the two cabinets to leave space for a chair - my cabinets are standard depth, 24” deep, rather than the 18” in the inspo picture. Questions: I want to know if the gap in the middle will be a problem in terms of support. Are there extra steps I should be taking for support, like adding additional material to support the middle bookcase? Also generally curious what measures I should be taking for overall support. Because this design has doors, I will be keeping the base of the Billy cabinets in place. But say, hypothetically, it didn’t have doors, and I wanted it to look seamless with my countertop. Could I remove the bases of the Billys, so that the counter would show all the way through, and still maintain the structural support? What additional support measures should I take in case I remove the base of the Billys? Thanks! submitted by /u/00vani [link] [comments]
