Need help! Portable AC in casement "crank-style" windows--Renters nightmare

Hi, my apartment has two quite large (24x45 inch) windows that crank out, i.e. you need to turn the lever and the entire window opens out. The apartment has central air but the landlord controls it. I need my own AC. The screens that are on the windows are the ones that clip in with the "butterfly" clips. I know that there are companies that can custom cut a piece of plexiglass to the size of the window and cut a hole for the AC pipe. Unfortunately, this would be very expensive for something that I can't take with me when I move. I also know that plywood could be used. The problem with that is I only have two windows and my apartment is already dark. Soooo...I was thinking of buying a clear, multiwall polycarbonate sheet--I know it's not completely transparent, but it's better than plywood) cutting it to size and cutting the hole in it for the AC vent. My problem is what would I put around it? I need to be able to pop it into the space where the screen would sit without damaging the window frame in any way. I do know that I might need to apply tape to secure it. Should I just glue thin weatherstripping around it? Help!! P.S. The fabric covers with the zippers won't work because my window opens out and the landlord does not want anything visible for aesthetic reasons. submitted by /u/Severe-Fall4957 [link] [comments]
